Indianapolis is celebrating the "Year of Vonnegut" in 2017, and it's inviting fans to toast the occasion around town with a series of new cocktails inspired by its native son.

Indianapolis Pours On the Love With 11 Vonnegut-Inspired Cocktails (Slideshow)
One of the city's best restaurants, Bluebeard, is named after a Vonnegut novel. A massive mural of the satirical writer graces a brick wall at 345 Massachusetts Ave. Just a few blocks away, the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library will open April 8 in much bigger digs.
As a lead-up to the grand reopening, the city's tourism bureau, Visit Indy, recently enlisted the help of local mixologists to create 11 cocktails commemorating Vonnegut.
Bluebeard's beverage Breakfast of Champions, the namesake of another Vonnegut novel, has applejack liquor and a sugar rim with crushed Wheaties. The bar Spoke & Steele is serving Not Kilgore's Drano, made with the author's beloved scotch and activated charcoal, a sly reference to recurring character Kilgore Trout's sad fate. At Hotel Tango, the blood-red Sherman Krebbs drink takes its cue from "Cat's Cradle."
